Art is about seeking and finding a truth. Perhaps it's a small truth that is so powerful that it becomes a universal truth. In the art of the 21st century media art is the vehicle. Digital media allows you to section and repeat time. It compresses space.
The network is the medium. The only way to counteract global marketing is to tell the truth about yourself. Call them as you see them even if it means you won't be marketable.

Palm Rants - 2001

This is an earlier rant done in June of 2001. It's a bit creepy because 2 months later 9/11 happened. What's even stranger is how the underlying messages haven't changed that much. The piece was done for palm pilots. I had the idea for creating a series of news rants back then and shipping them to PDA's. Now this is possible with rss, iPods and cellphones.

Split Rant

This is a performance of Rant/ Rant Back/ Back Rant (12 minutes) performed in September of 2003 for the Split Festival of Film and New Media in Split, Croatia.

The performance is G.H. Hovagimyan and Peter Sinclair.

The keywords are all gathered from news items. They become the raw material for a psychotic information rant. Peter samples GH's voice and throws it back into the sound mix. He adds effects and layers creating a new type of word/ slam/ information performance.

New Orleans is a deep disaster. America is under a dark cloud. If I was religious I'd say that George Bush was a false prophet. What happened to this great country? The thieves and liars are in control. There's no way out.

What performance art proposes is that everything in this process can be considered art. Each act in the system is a fractal component of the whole system. It can be presented as art. The whole system can be taken apart and rearranged to create a new art work.

Protection racket. Private property. Protect your rights. Protect our position in the world. Protect our standing. So the Muslims are right about the level of disrespect. The disrespect is from the people who govern. I mean the only thing that most people have is their family and their religion. Make fun of those and you're in trouble. Talk abou-bout blasphemous. Where would Jesus put the sidewalks. Southern cracker good ol' boy, in the same shit hole with you don't give a fuck as long as you can't crawl out, Ha Ha attitude.

This rant was one of many early peformances I did. This was for a video "group show" by Davidson Gigliotti called Chant Acapella. It's in the collection of the MoMA. Among the other participants in the tape were Julia Heyward, Laurie Anderson and Charlemagne Palestine. I also did some situationists disruptions in a fake Marxist discussion group called The Fox hosted by Joseph Kosuth. One performance was called code C Subworker a sort of sci-fi prose piece about a blind elevator operator.
